Cbus Super Stadium will host what is expected to be the biggest boxing event in Australian history, Tszyu vs Lara on Sunday 13 December 2026.
In the venue’s first boxing event, Tim Tszyu will challenge Erislandy Lara for the WBA Middleweight World Title; former undisputed super welterweight world champion and American superstar Jermell Charlo makes his long-awaited return against Australian sensation Brock Jarvis; and Liam Wilson will challenge Elnur Samedov for the WBA Super Featherweight World Title.
This will be the biggest boxing event staged in Queensland since Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn fought at Suncorp Stadium almost a decade ago.
The event will also be Tszyu’s first Queensland stadium fight since he stopped Horn at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in 2020.
Six years on, he is back with a world title on the line.
Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said securing this new type of content is a huge win for the venue.
“This card is a huge win for the city and we think Cbus Super Stadium is the perfect fit for a high-energy event like this,” Mr Harris said.
“Stadiums Queensland has pushed really hard to secure this event in our venue, in what we hope is the first of many across our portfolio.”
“It’s great that Cbus Super Stadium has become such a drawcard for major entertainment and we’re incredibly excited to add boxing to our broad range of events, as we continue to play our part in ensuring that the Gold Coast remains a major event destination.”
Tim Tszyu said, "this fight is about legacy. My dad is a Hall of Famer and the greatest fighter this country has produced. Becoming a two weight world champion is the one thing he never did. That is what I am chasing, and it drives me every single day.”
“Queensland and the Gold Coast have always backed me. I stopped Jeff Horn and defended my world title in Queensland stadiums and crowds and I can’t wait to feel that again. I’m ready to take that belt off Lara on the Gold Coast.”
The event announcement comes as Cbus Super Stadium is increasingly gaining popularity as a multi-use venue, having hosted events such as the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, Monster Jam, World Supercross, and a KISS concert, as well as the upcoming Global Drone Show.
A full week of activities will run on the Gold Coast in the lead up to the biggest boxing event in Australia in years.
The event is supported by the Queensland Government through Stadiums Queensland, Tourism and Events Queensland and Experience Gold Coast.
Tickets go on sale Monday 9 November via Ticketmaster.
