Gold Coast Stadium has lit up green and gold in celebration of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Gold Coast matches kicking off this Monday 2 March.

Up to 55,000 locals, national and international visitors are expected to fill the stadium this week alone, with two play-off matches to follow at the end of the month, in what will be the one of the stadium’s biggest ever events.

The stadium has activated new thematic lighting for the first time in celebration of the international tournament, lighting up green and gold to welcome the Matildas back to the venue.

All eyes will be on the Gold Coast for the return of the star-studded team who have become Australia’s most valuable sports team and hold the record for the most watched TV event in Australian history.

The stadium is preparing for a huge turnout over the four matches, gearing up to sell approximately 29,700 soft drinks, 15,950 burgers and hotdogs, 17,600 hot chips, and 3,850 ice creams just this week alone.

Stadium Acting General Manager Alie Tatnell said the stadium is prepped and ready for what promises to be a thrilling four days of international football right here on the Gold Coast.

“We’re set to welcome fans from across the coast, across Australia and even Asia, in what will be an incredible celebration of women’s football featuring some of the sport’s most impressive teams and athletes,” Ms Tatnell said.

“There will be plenty of activations around the venue for fans to enjoy in addition to the matches, so we’re encouraging fans to plan their trip, have their tickets downloaded, and arrive early to soak up the great atmosphere of the fan zone.”

“The AFC Women’s Asian Cup will be the one of the biggest events we’ve ever held at the stadium, and we’re really pleased to continue to play our part in ensuring the Gold Coast thrives as a major events destination, particularly for families.”
